Comments: Shabti amulets are rare (see SC/20 for a fragment). Yellow faience being used for shabtis is even rarer. The only parallels for these yellow faience amulets are on display in Cairo museum, unfortunately not published in Newberry’s “Amulets” from Cairo.
This example is extremely small with only 2.5 cm in height. Nevertheless it still contains a considerable amount of detail such as the well worked face with the ears clearly indicated. Possibly the face was painted as well whereby the eyes and mouth were indicated. The hands are nicely executed as well.
Based on the nicely shaped body, the NK wig, the lack of a back pillar and the yellow faience the piece likely dates to the New Kingdom, probably 18/19th dynasty and possibly Amarna in view of the yellow faience.
The piece was originally pierced vertically (now set on a modern pendant).
