Prov.: Ex Dutch collection, current Spanish collection, provenance provided to the purchaser.
This inexpensive shabti comes with an extensive 6 page research report provided by the current owner. The report encludes parallel overviews, provenance information for as far as known.
Slim mummiform statuette wearing a long tripartite wig. Arms rest over chest with
clenched hands holding a hoe on the right, and a rope on the left. Fists are
opposed. Eyes nose, mouth, ears, and hoe are modelled. Legs are schematically
shown. White-gessoed and painted blue to simulate faience. Rope is painted black.
Clean break to the knees. Most of the gesso layer and blue paint is missing -traces
of paint around modelled details. Presumibly, the hieroglyphic script was once
painted black, considering the colour of the rope. Nice condition overall.
The statuette presents characteristics features of shabtis produced in the Delta,
such as the long tripartite wig, a slim, slender body, or the use of hoe and rope. For
shabtis with a similar typology, see the shabtis of Djedkhonsuiuefank, found in Tell
Basta (AUBERT, pl. 51)
